Mexico 2019, Day #3 - Tequila, Guadalajara, Guanajuato

Tuesday, March 5, 2019

This was an early morning, far too early for a holiday haha. But it was a 6 hour drive to get from La Penita to Guanajuato. On the way we drove through Tequila and Guadalajara.

Agave plants aka tequila!

Selfie at our hotel.

Museo de momia - mummy museum

Honestly, this was a bit creepy and pretty emotional. The bodies weren't actually preserved like traditional mummies, they were in stand up crypts and were naturally preserved. You can see by the look on some of their faces that they either died in their sleep or peacefully, or that they were killed. You can see the stab/gun wound too because the skin turned darker around the wound.

After the mummy museum we walked around the city and grabbed some lunch. This city is truly beautiful.

We stopped for lunch for some good ol' tacos. Honestly I haven't a bad meal in Mexico. I didn't get a picture of the name of this place but it was excelente!

After dinner Salvador took us to the square where it's closed to car traffic. There are underground tunnels connecting 23 miles for cars.

A frog face. The name Guanajuato comes from Purépecha “Quanax huato," which means “hilly place of frogs.”

Keep in mind this was a Tuesday night. I couldn't get over how many people were out on a weeknight!

Salvador took us down to the underground tunnels under the city centre.

Our late night 'snack'. I ended up ordering a salad because I wasn't eating very many veggies lol. I also enjoyed one of these delicious croissants and Salvador ordered some guacamole for me too. A perfect way to end the day!

Day #4 is the Valenciana Mine and Church, and something bad happened...
